REBEL REBEL : fanzines art & culture est un projet conçu dès 2015 par le Fonds régional d’art contemporain Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur et la Fondation d’entreprise Logirem. Il a pour objet la création, la diffusion et la promotion du fanzine. Misant sur l’énergie, la liberté créatrice et la richesse de la culture du fanzine, REBEL REBEL se déploie à travers différentes actions.

Durant 3 jours (22, 23 et 24 avril 2016) la première édition du festival REBEL REBEL : fanzine art & culture célèbre le fanzine à travers des discussions, des conférences et des performances et accueillera l’exposition de l’artiste américain émergent Pat McCarthy, en avril-juin 2016 sous le commissariat de Laura Morsch-Kihn.
Au coeur de ce festival, la première édition du salon international du fanzine de Marseille rassemblera une trentaine d’éditeurs internationaux qui explorent les périmètres du fanzine d’aujourd’hui à travers différentes disciplines : photographie, graffiti, dessin, architecture, musique … (Programme à venir)
Ce festival se poursuivra par une exposition sur le fanzine au sein du 3e plateau jusqu’au 5 juin. Enfin, il donnera lieu à la création d’une collection de fanzines au Frac.
A l’image du fanzine, le festival REBEL REBEL : Fanzine art & culture nous invite à l’expérimentation, à l’inventivité et à l’interaction tout en mettant en lumière l’énergie du fanzine comme espace d’art, de résistance et de liberté d’expression.
En parallèle du festival REBEL REBEL un volet à destination des adolescents des quartiers nord de Marseille a débuté en novembre 2015 : 4 ateliers menés par des artistes en lien avec le fanzine et une résidence de création avec Pat McCarthy (USA). L’ensemble de ces réalisations sera exposé au FRAC en avril-juin 2016.
Qu’est ce qu’un Fanzine ?
Le terme de fanzine, apparu dans les années 30 aux Etats-Unis  chez les amateurs passionnés de science fiction est la contraction de FANatic magaZINE, littéralement « magazine de fans ». Son esthétique est depuis les années 70 fortement marquée par le punk et sa philosophie D.I.Y (pour do it yourself, « fais-le-toi-même »).
Indépendant, auto-édité, imprimé  à un faible tirage, financièrement désintéressé, détaché de toute considération commerciale,  l’objet a donc une vraie liberté de forme et d’esprit et permet à ses créateurs d’exercer une  créativité sans limite.

REBEL REBEL : fanzines art & culture is a project initiated in 2015 by the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and the Fondation d’entreprise Logirem. Its aim is the creation, diffusion and promotion of fanzines. Focusing on the energy, creative freedom and richness of fanzine’s culture, REBEL REBEL deploys itself through different actions.
Over 3 days (April 22-24, 2016) the first edition of REBEL REBEL : the fanzine art & culture festival will celebrate fanzines through discussions, conferences, performances and will host the exhibition of emerging American artist Pat McCarthy, in April-June 2016 curated by Laura Morsch-Kihn.
At the heart of the festival, the first edition of the international fanzine fair of Marseille will gather nearly thirty international publishers exploring today’s fanzines through alternative disciplines: photography, graffiti, drawing, architecture, music… (Program coming soon)
This festival will continue with an exhibition on fanzines on the 3ème plateau until the 5th of June. Finally, it will lead to the creation of a fanzines’ collection at the FRAC.
Such as fanzines, REBEL REBEL: the fanzine art & culture festival is an invitation for us to experiment, invent and interact with each other while highlighting the fanzine’s energy as a space of art, resistance and freedom of speech.
In parallel to the REBEL REBEL festival, a section for the teenagers of the North suburbs of Marseille was launched in November 2015: 4 workshops led by artists connected to fanzines and a residency with Pat McCarthy (USA). All these productions will be exhibited at the FRAC in April-June 2016.
What is a Fanzine?
The term fanzine, which appeared in the USA during the 1930s among passionate fans of science fiction, is a contraction of FANatic magaZINE. Since the 1970s its aesthetic is strongly linked to punk culture and its D.I.Y. philosophy. Independent, self-published, limited publication, financially disinterested, detached from all commercial consideration, the object has therefore a true freedom of format and spirit and allows its publishers unlimited creativity.
